Following the success of Notte Bianca in Valletta, I was convinced to check out Birgu fest, when, admittedly, I knew nothing about it. So off I went, and – wow!
It was truly spectacular. The play was kicking off with live music, bands, stalls selling everything from rabbit and pulled pork on a spit, to cotton candy. The churches, yes, there are several, all competed to look the best. They had statues shining bright and choirs singing loud.
The place was buzzing. My absolute fave part though, was definitely the “Birgu by candle light” part. Literally every window and doorstep throughout every charmingly quaint little alley, had bright colored candles lighting up these dark pathways.
Add to that yet more dancers, shows of arms, and massive traditional projections on the majestic bastions, yes, I’m impressed. Oh, and you can check all of this out on the cutest train ever seen too. See you all next year!
